Gừng: Cội nguồn của y học đời xưa

Theo người Tây Phương muốn trị bệnh nôn mửa
thì không gì tốt hơn là Gừng.
Gừng phát xuất từ phía Nam Á Châu, là một loại cây quanh năm dài cao từ 2 đến 4
ft, có lá dài khoảng 1 ft và tỏa ra cũng 1 ft. Gừng được coi là một loại rễ
"Root" nhưng sự thật là một thân cây nối dài nằm sâu trong lòng đất.
Gừng đã được dùng như là thực phẩm và làm thuốc từ nhiều thiên niên kỷ. Văn tự
của người Trung Hoa từ thế kỷ thứ 4 trước niên lịch đã được dùng để chữa trị,
nôn mửa, tiêu chảy, đau bụng, nhức đầu, đau răng, chảy máu và thấp khớp. Y khoa
Tây Phương thì dùng gừng để chữa bệnh nôn mửa.
Gừng chữa bệnh say sóng
Khoảng đầu thập niên 80, nhà khoa học D. Mowrey nhận thấy là khi ông bị cúm mà
dùng những viên thuốc gừng thì ông ta đỡ bị nôn mửa. Ông thấy lạ nên nghiên cứu
thêm về gừng. Kết quả thử nghiệm đem lại kết quả tốt và do đó y khoa Đức Quốc đã
chấp nhận Gừng để trị bệnh say sóng. Sau đó Thụy Điển đã thử nghiệm trên 79 khoá
sinh hải quân và cho biết là 1 g gừng làm giảm bớt rất nhiều chứng ói mửa và cảm
lạnh. Rồi họ cũng tìm ra là gừng có thể thay thế cho nhiểu thứ thuốc say sóng
khác như: cinnarizine, cinnarizine with domperidone, cyclizine, dimehydrinate
with caffeine, meclozine with caffeine, and scopolamine. Người ta cũng thử
nghiệm gừng cho 60 hành khách trên các tầu thương mãi và thấy có kết quả tốt, kể
cả trẻ em.
Năm 1984, NASA của Mỹ còn thử nghiệm và công nhận rằng gừng tốt hơn placebo.
Gừng chữa bệnh nôn mửa buổi sáng
Các bà bầu thuờng hay bị buồn nôn mửa buổi sáng sớm. Họ cũng thử gừng với 70 bà
bầu bằng cách cho mỗi người placebo hay 250 mg bột gừng mỗi ngày 3 lần trong
vòng 4 ngày. Kết quả là gừng giúp cho mấy bà bầu đỡ nôn mửa rất nhiều, và không
có phản ứng gì hết.
Gừng chữa ói mửa sau khi bị giải phẫu
Nhiều người thường cảm thấy bị buốn nôn sau khi bị giải phẫu vì bị thuốc mê.
Người ta đã thử nghiệm với 60 người đàn bà cho dùng cả gừng cả placebo và thuốc
metoclopramide để chữa trị bệnh buồn nôn sau khi bị giải phẫu. Kết quả gừng cũng
có kết qủa ngang với placebo. Bên Anh quốc người ta cũng thử nghiệm với 120 đàn
bà khác sau khi bị mổ cho dùng cả placebo và gừng để chữa chứng buồn nôn thì có
kêt quả 21% cho placebo và 27% cho gừng.
Những cách chữa trị dùng gừng
Gừng theo truyền thống dùng để chữa bệnh thấp khớp. Nhiều cuộc thử nghiệm chứng
minh rằng gừng đã giúp cho bệnh thấp khớp (osteoarthritis). Tuy nhiên bên Á Châu
còn có loại cầy riềng nếp được dùng chung với gừng chứ không phải riêng kết quả
là do gừng.
Gừng còn dùng đễ chữa các bệnb nhức đầu (migraine), tê thấp, giảm cholesterol,
đau bao tử, trầm cảm và bất lực sinh lý nữa. Các dùng thì nên dùng 4 g bột gừng
1 ngày chia làm 3 hay 4 lần. Trước khi khởi hành chuyến máy bay hay hải hành lâu
ngày thì nên dùng gừng trước đó 1,2 ngày và tiếp tục trong cả cuộc hành trình.
Gừng rất an toàn không bị phản ứng gì cả. Gừng cũ ng như tỏi được thử nghiệm rất
tốt cho việc chống máu đông lại. Vì vậy người ta nghi ngờ và khuyên can la
2khônbg nên dùng gừng chung với các thứ thuốc: Coumadin (warfarin), heparin,
Plavix (clopidogrel), Ticlid (ticlopidine), Trental (pentoxifylline), hay cả
aspirin nữa.
